John Watts and Elizabeth Jacoby
From:    geosan@lakeozark.net

I am searching for the parents of John Watts who was born in Virginia circa 1760-65.  Family history says that he was a Private in the Revolutionary War.
He married Elizabeth Jacoby, daughter of John Francis Lucas Jacoby,  in Bourbon County, KY. January 8, 1795.  In 1816, they moved to Missouri and resided in either Pike or Lincoln County.  They had 9 children, one of whom, Jane Watts,  married James Hart Stark, the founder of the Stark Nurseries in Louisiana, Missouri.  James Hart and Jane Watts Stark are my ggg grandparents.  There are so many John Watts and none of those previously posted are my ancestor.  I would very much appreciate any help that can be given in this search.

Descendants of Thomas Watts and Mary Crookston
From:    perryland@gorge.net (Perryland)

This is the first time I have seen your newsletter. Looks like a nice resource. These are my fourth and fifth great grandparents. Rebecca and Jonathan's daughter Mary, married Orrin Alonzo Perry, which is my direct line.

I'm also related on my mother's side. The nearest I can find is Francis Marion Javins and Henrietta Watts. I have wondered about his father and grandfather having the middle name Watts.

Thomas Watts and Harriet Seabrook
From:  Rajmbird@aol.com

My family has been traced back to Thomas Watts and wife Harriet Seabrook(sp) who came here from Huntingdonshire, England.  Thomas was about 4 or 5 when he came to Vanderburgh County, Evansville, Indiana with his parents but we don't know their names.  He grew up there, married, was a stage driver for 2 years, farmed and then moved to Illinois where he settled with his family at Saunemin, Livingston County.  He had 12 children.  My family is descended from him through his son, Albert Daniel, but I don't have much on Albert's siblings.  We are actively searching for the parents of Thomas or Harriet at this time.
I hope this is helpful to some and perhaps there is another out there who could offer more information to us, also.

Thomas Watts and Tabitha ??
From:   nwatts@swbell.net (Neal)

After many years, I've managed to finally identify, with a pretty good probability, that my Josiah Watts of Wayne County, MS (b. abt. 1780)  is a son of John Watts of Washington County, GA (b. 1752).  John Watts of Washington County, GA is proven to be one of the sons of Thomas Watts (b. 1722 in VA) and Tabitha ??? of Kershaw County, SC.

Thomas Watts and Tabitha ??? of Kershaw County, SC have five proven children: John, Benjamin, Julius Alexander, Isaiah and Tabitha.  We've been able to prove or at least determine strong candidates for all the son's lines.  They spread out from SC to GA, FL, MS and AL in the first couple of generations.

So, I'm back to VA, the bane of all genealogists.  A web published genealogy of Thomas Watts of Kershaw County, SC has him born in Prince William County.  I haven't yet seen the proof of this location.  That same genealogy assigns Francis Watts b. abt. 1695 as Thomas' father.  Again, I haven't seen proof.

The odd thing about this genealogy is that there isn't a another Francis in any of the descendant lines.  This makes me very suspicious of that connection.

IF they used a naming convention, then Thomas' father would more likely be a John Watts and Tabitha's father would be named Benjamin.  But this is speculation assuming there were no infant deaths, etc.

Looking at your genealogy on Edward Watts on your website, I notice a plethora of John, Benjamin and Thomas given names.  And your lines come from Stafford County, from which part later became Prince William County.

So...., Do you have any additional information from the Stafford/ Prince William county area that hasn't been posted on your website or in the back issues of the Newsletter  that might help identify the parents of this Thomas Watts and Tabitha ???  ?

Good hunting,

Neal

Below is my working genealogy on Thomas and Tabitha.  Note there are various candidate relatives and unproven lines.  Obviously this is a working document.  (I can send it to you as a .txt file if our mail programs mangle the format.)
