The Watts On-line
Issue No. 79
October 3, 2000

Thanks for the large number of contributions this month.  There was not room for all of them so look for more in next month’s newsletter.  My sister and I are working to put the newsletters on line with a search engine.  Since the newsletters are not indexed this will be very helpful in reviewing the older newsletters.

I would still like to print everyone’s Watts genealogy pages.  If you have your own site with your genealogy posted please forward your Web address to me.  If you have your genealogy posted on Worldconnect, Family Tree Maker or some other site, you can forward that address too.  Let’s see how many Watts sites we have out there!

married on 11/25/1841 to ELVIRA FRANCES CHRISTIAN born 11/22/1822 died 7/13/1915 in Lincoln Co. MO buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

They came to MO in 1866.

Birth records of 1856-1866 by Ann Chilton give 2 of their children

ROBERT HENRY WARNER WATTS A 12/22/1957

SALLIE LEE WATTS 9/3/1855

our Bible shows

ROBERT WARREN WATTS 12/22/1857

SARAH L WATTS 9/3/1855  died 7/12/1857

We know of one brother of William Paulus Watts, Samuel M Watts

Samuel is on 1840 census in Amherst and in 1850 census Rockridge

SAMUEL M WATTS  age 40

ELIZA ANN WATTS   age 32  wife

They came to Marion Co. MO area of Frankford and New London MO in 1866

The other Watts line in Lincoln County  was denied by our line.  But that doesnt mean they are not related .   But William Paulus Watts parents are unknown  the Family search shows that Samuel M Watts parents are William and Mary "Polly" Hill Watts.

Mother has William & Nelson Watts  in the History of Elsberry written by Clarence Cannon.  Nelson is buried under 6th street in Elsberry.  They made 6th St. around the graves but people took the bricks and soon only the grave stone was leaning up against  a pole.  William is buried by the nursery.

Garrett is in the old St. Charles, Warren and Lincoln History book and Mother thinks from the description that he is buried on the Houston (House-ton) farm. Her sister married a Houston and  my Houston married  Fran Houston. She told Mother that she used to play in the grave yard and remembered that there were Watts buried there.

On my father's side

Jane Watts daughter of John Watts and Elizabeth Jacoby married John Hart Stark.  Of the Stark Nursery Stark's.

We have the Jacoby line  but cant find the Watts line.

Does any one have this Watts-line traced?  I thought since we were working on Watts, why not both of the

lost lines?

QUERIES

From:  reynolds@mtco.com (Janette King Reynolds)

I have tried for many years to find an elusive great grandfather - perhaps someone on WATTS ON-LINE can help - here is my story.

I have his name on two documents as JACK/JACKSON WATTS.  I have no information relative to him except for the following.  He married SARAH BELLE SALLEE who was b 16 Nov 1868 Washington Co., KY, d 9 Dec 1958 Alton, IL buried Arthur, Douglas Co., IL and was the daughter of Darold & Delitha (DeShazer) Sallee – no dates for them.

Jackson (perhaps had an additional name ie Andrew Jackson, etc) and Sarah Sallee Watts had the following children both born in Harrodsburg, Garrard Co., KY.  Many of Sarah's family were in the Garrard Co. area, perhaps "Jack's" also.  The children were Lula Mae/May Watts (my maternal grandmother) b 1 May 1885 and Thomas Hudson Watts b 8 March 1891.   Both lived, married, raised family, and buried in Illinois.

On 25 Mar 1901 Sarah married 2nd to William Albert Sallee; they and her two children emigrated to the Moultrie/Douglas, Illinois area in 1904 remaining there the rest of their lives.  I do not know if Jackson Watts died, they divorced, etc. - would certainly like to piece this puzzle and will appreciate any assistance.  Thanks for printing my request.

DESCENDANTS OF JACOB WATTS AND PERMELIA HOLLINGSWORTH

From:  miltonw@hotmail.com (milton watts)

Most of the information came from research done by my aunt, Annie Maude (Watts) Hurst.

Don't think that Jacob Hudson was a hero. He has two tombstones, one with the date of 1819 which agrees with most of our records. Another, furnished by the Daughters of the Confederacy has a birth year of 1809. It appears he was able to draw his confederate pension 10 years early!

My parents and two aunts live at Watts Cross Roads just north of Lineville very close to Jacob Hudson's homeplace and gravesite. Jacob and Millie's gravesites is a matter of discussion among the descendants.
