That I know of these WATTS are not related to my Tennessee WATTS that I
posted earlier. I received this through my CANTRELL line. My CANTRELL
married a HOWELL that married a WATTS of my TN WATTS that was in Texas at
the time. This sure can be confusing sometimes.
Walter WATTS birth date unknown. He married Mary PAIR unknown
Walter WATTS and Mary PAIR had the following child:
Myrtle Mattie WATTS. She married Charlie Morgan CANTRELL. Charlie was born
in Winston Co. AL 9 April 1901. Charlie was the son of Sherman Hanford
CANTRELL and Lula CLAYTON. Charlie died 21 April 1968 in Carbon Hill, AL
The social security death index shows a Myrtle CANTRELL b12 Sep 1906 d May
1978 last place of residence as Huntsville, Madison, AL It also shows the
above Charlie Morgan CANTRELL last place of residence as Helena, AL
Does anybody connect with this WATTS line?

Dear Lori;
.My Watts line starts in Kershaw County with Thomas Watts that settled on
Lynches River in about 1742. I have not been able to trace him back any
further because there were sooo many Thomas Watts in that area and at that
time. He and his wife Tabitha had four sons that we know of. They were
John Watts that moved to Washington County, Ga. but we have not been able
to find any of his descendents. Benjamin Watts, and all we know of him is
that his wife's name was Jenny, and we have no record of where he lived
and died. Isaiah Watts that married Sarah and remained in Kershaw county,
SC and we have numerous descendents of him and Sarah. Julius Alexander
Watts that was born September 24, 1769 and married Agnes Benson. They
moved from Kershaw County, SC. to Sumter County, SC and had 8 children.
Benson Watts
(my GGgrandfather), Mary Watts that died as an infant, Isaiah Watts that
also died as an infant, Hampton Watts born March 28, 1807 and married
Sarah Linna Brown and they had 6 children, Rufus M. Watts that moved to
Anderson County, Texas in 1856. He married Rhoda Smith of Sumter District
and they had 9 children. Alexander McIntosh Watts born November 7, 1813.
He married Martha Daindridge Spann and moved to Anderson County, Tx. in
1857 and they had 14 children. Rebecca Martha Watts born March 19, 1815,
and married Henry Hampton Corbett in Camden, Kershaw County, SC. They had
13 children. Henry A. Watts born March 20, 1817 and moved to Anderson
County and died February 12, 1869.
I have a large file of Thomas' descendents but I would like to find
information on John Watts that went to Washington County, Ga, Benjamin
Watts and his wife Jenny, and also who Thomas Watts father was and where
he came from.
Thanks Bo Watts

Needless to say, except for my known family members, I haven't a clue as
to who these WATTS folks are but it appears to me there is a strong
suggestion that they are related. Am hoping that some of you may have some
clues as to their identities. If not, hope some of you might have a
suggestion as to the ancestors of my Edward "Ned" Watts born in SC ca
1814. It is possible that the ancestor am looking for is Thomas J. Watts
who married Mary House Marshall since First son is named Thomas J. Watts
and Second son is named Laird (Laird B. Fleming?) perhaps after father of
Elizabeth E. Fleming.

JOHN WATTS AND ELIZABETH DAVIS
Hi,
I certainly appreciated your information on the John Watts and Elizabeth
Davis line. However, you left off my line who was their first child:
Nancy Watts b. 23 Oct 1791 Clark Co, KY
m. 10 July 1806 Clark Co, KY to Richard Grooms
d. before Dec, 1858 Platte Co, MO
Per John Watts will:
"...if any should remain to be equally divided between all my children;
namely, Nancy Groom, Abel Watts, George Watts, Benjamin Watts, Polly
Bishop, Augustine Watts, Fanny Jenkins, Richard Watts, Jane Elliott,
William Watts, Mahala Watts, and John Watts..."
I have not been successful in finding the ancestors of John Watts nor the
ancestors or children of Leonard Davis (Elizabeth Davis father). Any
assistance would be appreciated.
I would like to correspond with any descendants of John Watts and
Elizabeth Davis.

SUSANNAH (WATTS) AND JOHN KEY, SR.
By Dr. Marcus Key
("The Virginia Genealogist" page 98 - Vol. 18)
The first record of John Key, Sr., in Amherst County was in 1768, when
Henry Key undertook (acted as Surety) for him in a lawsuit. Also in 1768,
he deeded his personal estate to his "present wife Susannah" and her
children, which indicated that he had been married previously. Amherst
County records show that John Key, Sr., and the two witnesses to his 1768
deed poll were closely associated with Henry Key and John Key, Jr. One of
the witnesses, William Hansbrough, lived near Henry Key, John Key, Jr.,
and James Nevill in the Glades of old Amherst County and was the
father-in-law of William Key, a witness with Henry Key and John Key, Jr.,
to Amherst County deeds in 1770 and 1772. John Rees, the other witness,
also lived in this area, and in 1767-68, when he was involved in a
lawsuit, Henry undertook for him. The last record of John Key, Sr., was in
1769 when he initiated a lawsuit in Amherst County Chancery Court.
Susannah (WATTS) Key paid taxes on 100 acres in Amherst County in 1783 and
1787. She is listed in the enumeration's of Amherst County for 1783 and
1785 as the head of a family of nine. And in the personal property tax
lists for the Amherst District (corresponding to what is now Nelson
County) of Amherst County, for zero to two and later zero white males
between 1782 and 1802. Their personal property tax lists for 1788 and 1794
show that she was the mother of Dabney and Thomas. Dabney was probably
born about 1767, based on his first tally in the "Over 21" column of the
tax lists. Susannah (WATTS) Key's is possibly from the WATTS family of
Spotsylvania and Albemarle Counties, which has many gaps in its genealogy.
Edward WATTS (ca. 1675 - ca. 1750) patented land in St. George's Parish,
Spotsylvania County, 1728, and left issue: Thomas (1695 - 1749), Edward
(ca. 1698 - ca. 1760), David (1702 - 1767), William (1704 - 1760), and
John (1710 - 1765). David WATTS was a neighbor of John Key, Sr., of
Albemarle County and owned adjoining land in that part of Louisa County
which became Albemarle in 1761. Edward WATTS was involved in a lawsuit
with John Peartree Burks, Robert Davis and Samuel Jordan - all Cabell
in-laws.
THE SEVERAL JOHN KEYS (Susannah WATTS)
By Dr. Marcus Key
("The Virginia Genealogist" page 99 - Vol. 18)
The problem of the ambiguous evidence relating to the parentage of the
brothers Henry and John Key, Jr., has not been resolved. They are said to
have been the sons of John Key, of Amherst County, who married SUSANNAH
WATTS, and the grandsons of John and Martha (Tandy) Key, Sr., of Albemarle
County. However, there was hardly enough time for an extra generation
between John Key, Sr., of "Key West," Albemarle County (born ca. 1696,
orphaned along with his brother Martin by 1708). And Henry (born ca. 1730)
and John Key, Jr. (married 1750). So some other relationship would seem to
be more appropriate to explain the several John Keys. Perhaps John Key,
Sr., of Amherst County was an older cousin.

Notes for JOHN EMASY BECK:
John Emasy Beck married in Chatham County, NC. His first wife died not
long after the birth of their first son John Emasy Beck, Jr. about
1775-80.
John Beck was a witness to a deed in Chatham Co., NC, in 1785. John's name
also appears in the court records of Chatham Co., NC, three times in 1790.
He sued Connor Dodd. John won the suite and it was appealed and upheld.
John Beck married Franky Watts in 1792 in Chatham Co., NC. This marriage
does not appear in the Chatham Co. Marriage Book 1772-1868. The Watts
family was likely from another county. Their name does not appear in early
Chatham County court records. The first mention is the will of Benjamin
