This past weekend I attended a reunion in Kanosh, Utah. This small town
was the birthplace of my grandfather and great-grandfather. It was quite
interesting to be in a town that seems to still be in the past. Dogs ran
free about the town without fear of a dogcatcher. There was very little
traffic along the main highway through town and there was only a small
general store where farm tools were sold in the basement.. We camped in
the city park without graffiti and next to a farm tractor. As a city girl,
I grew up in the Washington D.C. suburbs and now live in the Phoenix area.
We did a lot of joking about this small town but after visiting, I decided
that the residents there probably would have it no other way and would not
be interested at all in the things the big city offers. There is something
to be said of small town life. Contents: 1. Members Lines 2. Queries 3. OBITURIES IN CLARK COUNTY, KENTUCKY 4. Mrs. James Sutherland of Franklin County, Kentucky 5. James Winston Watts 6. Barneskat@aol.com From: NLGlasgow@aol.com I have just begun researching the Watts family ancestry. This is all I know right now. Thomas Z. Watts (or was it William???) was b. circla 1850 in KT and his wife Sally Ann Childs of KT were the parents of Mary Flem(m)ing Watts. b. Aug. 16, 1871 in Todd Co., KT and d. 1961 in Comanche, Comanche, TX. If Mary had siblings children I do not know about them yet. The family moved in 1884 and settled at Cedar Creek, Bastrop Co., TX. Mary married Andrew Jackson Roberts in 1887 and moved to Comanche, Comanche Co., TX. They had six sons and five daughter. If anyone is researching this same line I would love to exchange notes. From: RICHO 300@aol.com She said that you would know more about the Watts family. She also said that you would know where to find the "Watts On-line Newsletter." I cannot find this on the Internet. Is this a mail list? (we're not on the internet....yet) Our family is descended from Nancy Elizabeth (maybe just Elizabeth) Watts (? - abt 1800?) who married John Snell (? - abt 1820) probably in Orange County, Virginia. Believe that they both died in Scott County, Kentucky. An Elizabeth Durrett married a Reverend Jacob Watts (1730 - 1821) probably near Albemarle/Orange County, VA. This family is also related to our family, but not a direct line. From what I can glean from the Internet and Family Tree Maker, Jacob Watts ties into Edward and Cornelius Watts. I am wondering if my Nancy Elizabeth Watts also ties into the same lines as Jacob? What information do you have on these families, if any? BROOKSHIRE had killed himself by hanging in his barn at Valley View Sunday, came as a great shock to his many friends and relatives here. He was a native of Clark county, and married a daughter of Capt. Ellis BAXTER, who was killed by a train in this city a year or so ago. One of his sons was drowned in the Kentucky river and last year his second son was killed by the Q. & C. train in Lexington, which he has brooded over ever since and which caused him to do as he did. He had also suffered of late from a rising in his head, but to his friends seemed perfectly at himself. He leaves his wife and three daughters, the wives of A. FIELDER and R.G. WHARTON, of this city, and Ernest NORTHCOTT of Helena, Ark. His remains were brought here and after services in the Central Baptist church at 2:30 conducted by Elders Thos. Watts and J.W. Harding, were buried in the Winchester Cemetery. the pallbearers were James GRIGGS, H.H. WATTS, D.H. WATTS, W.J. WATTS, and B. BURGESS. the honorary pall-bearers were Chas. LAND, Dr. Robert DOUGHERTY, Dr. J.B. MILLION, Jos. SMITH, Dr. J.B. EADES, Eugene LAND, M.F. WHARTON, A.B. HOWARD. Frank BOGIE, and W.B. BOWMAN. Source: Clark County Republican, May 19, 1916, Page 2. Mrs. Sutherland was a lovely young woman, a member of the Glenns Creek Baptist church, a devoted daughter, wife and mother, whose untimely death is a crushing sorrow to her family and a distress to many friends. The burial followed in the Versailles cemetery. ******************************************** James Winston Watts (19 Jan 1904 - 15 Nov 1994) Developer of the Frontal Lobotomy Anyone in our group a relative? ******************************************** Watts in Adair County, Oklahoma Adair County, Oklahoma History http://www.rootsweb.com/~okadair/adaircty.htm Located in eastern Oklahoma, bordering Arkansas, Adair County was created at statehood in 1907, and named for a well known Cherokee Indian family. The county seat has been located in Stilwell since 1910. Primary industries of the county include food processing and canning, poultry raising, cattle ranching and horse breeding. Each May a Strawberry Festival is held in Stilwell to celebrate the strawberry, a principal crop of the area. Sites of interest within Adair County include the site near Westville of the Old Baptist Missionary Church, built by the "Trail of Tears" Cherokees in 1836. A marker stands near the community of Watts recognizing Fort Wayne, a military post established in 1838 and abandoned in 1842, although it was reactivated and was the site of a Civil war battle in 1862. ******************************************** Will of Edward Watts of Russell Parish, Bedford County Dated 12 March 1793 Abstracts - Bedford County, Virginia Will Book 22 Pages 158-160 Will of Edward Watts of Russell Parish, Bedford County Dated 12 March 1793 To my son John Watts 150 acres of land on Beaverdam Creek where John Holliday now lives, one negro called Rose, one feather bed and mare already delivered and five shillings sterling.
