That relationship is incorrect. To my knowledge, these Watts lines have not been traced any farther back than the two names above, haven't been tied together yet (other than they traveled together), and are not yet tied to any other lines presented to date in Watts' On-Line. So, if you would, in the next issue, redirect interested folks to me rather than to John Jamison. I think John wants to concentate on the Reuben line. Josiah Watts is my GGGGF. I've been trying to get it further back for a long time. The wife mentioned in the article is Margaret "Peggy" Evans. Josiah Watts and his wife "Peggy" Evans moved from Chesterfield District, SC to Wayne County, MS in 1812. I believe the reference to Washington County, GA only indicates where they obtained the passport. At least I haven't found anything on them there. I have lots of information on them in Wayne County and census data that verifies that several (probably all) of their four oldest children (noted as traveling with them in the article) were born in SC. E.g., My GGGF was "Judge" John Watts, b.May 26, 1805 in Chesterfield District, SC. However, I have been unable to take the line any further back in SC for either the Watts or the Evans family. Josiah Watts is documented in Wayne County, MS earlier than 1812, indicating that he came first and got things started before going back to bring his family across. Natches records record Josiah and a James Watts in Wayne County, MS in 1810. This gives me a James, Josiah and John Evans Watts who are all probably related. Moreover we have Josiah's wife Peggy Evans, Josiah Evans and John Evans Watts. This indicates a fairly long term collateral relationship between these particular Evans and Watts lines. While the article describes John Evans Watts descendants and their locale, it didn't do the same for Josiah. Most of Josiah Watts descendants up past 1900 lived in the MS counties of Wayne, Jones, Clarke, Jasper, Lauderdale, Newton, Kemper and Neshoba. Virginia Esther Watts was a daughter of Thomas Watts and his wife Esther of Culpeper Co., VA I personally find this information exciting as it is new to me. Mark is a descendent of Esther Watts and had made a great effort in the past few weeks to prove the connection between this Esther Watts and the Esther Watts, daughter of Thomas Watts. His work paid off and below is the land deed which provides that proof. Notice in the descendant chart below that Martha "Patsy" Watts,. Daughter of William Watts and granddaughter of Thomas Watts married her cousin William White. Notes of Mark White: Jeremiah White served as Justice of the first bench for Orange Co. in 1777 and Captain of Precincts to take the list of tithables 28 May 1778. In 1791 he made three simultaneous gifts of property to his sons WILLIAM WHITE, RICHARD WHITE, AND JOHN WHITE. Jeremiah White was apparently a wealthy man. He was a justice of the peace, tax collector, copatriot of James Madison and James Monroe, and fathered eight children. He purchased two parcels of the original Octonia grant (west of U.S. 29, north of U.S. 33) around 1769-1799 of approximately 1100 acres, which he gave to his sons William, Richard and John in 1791.
