See below for my husband's Watts connection.

This is what I have on our Alabama Watts:

These are descendants of William Lloyd TRUITT, b. 1839 [maybe in Harris
co., GA], m. Nancy Ann Bice in Goldville, AL. They lived in Tallapoosa and
Calhoun Co., AL.

William L. Truiitt's children were:

Henry J. Truitt, b. 1873/AL, m. Martha Lou Ella WATTS; Children: W. King
Truitt, Hubert Truitt, Otis Truitt, Alton Lural Truitt.

Walter Lloyd Truitt, b. 1874/AL, m. Orie WATTS; Children: Ellis Truitt
-[son, Shelton], Earnest Truitt, Willard Truitt.

Mary Frances "Fannie" Truitt, b. 4 Mar 1888/AL - m. Francis "Columbus"
FULTON, b. 3 June 1879. His mother was Martha Jane WATTS, b. 18 Jan 1850,
m. Jasper O. FULTON.

"Columbus" & "Fannie" Fulton were married in 1905 and lived in Lineville or Pyriton, Clay Co., AL until his death in 1907. Some of the WATTS are buried in the Concord Church Cem. in Clay Co., AL. I believe that "Columbus" is a Watts name. Some of the Watts may have come from Carroll Co., GA or Clay Co., AL before settling in Tallapoosa Co., AL. Would appreciate any leads on this family.

I have no dates on Henry and Walter Truitt's marriages. Nor do I know any of their children. My husband remembers Martha Lou Ella Watts Truitt taking care of him for his mother while she worked as a nurse [that was around 1940's]. He also remembers his mother talking about one of his relatives as being a Cherokee Indian lady with long black hair.
Thanks,
Anita Golden Kellum

I have got some dates on my Watts line:

John William Watts, born Jan 24, 1870 in Alabama, died Jan 11, 1955
in Tenn.

His parents were not listed on his Death Certificate. Could you help
me with finding
his parents? I know they were in Alabama in 1870 and maybe in 1880. If you can get to look at the 1870 or 1880 Census of Alabama I would greatly appreciate it. I would but I live in Tn and it is a distance from here.

Thanks
Mary Watts

Queries
From: mwhite@virginia.edu (Mark White)
(I am also very interested in this William Watts and the White connection. If any of you can shed some light on this family please let us know. Lori)

Lori
You may recall there's been some confusion re: William Watts --was he *really* the son of Thomas Watts, who died the same year he was born? (There is a William in Thomas' Will but Heineman claims some confusion between the William Watts' of Orange/Albemarle Co. Most records contain a birth date of 1749 for William but this has to be wrong as Thomas' will does not mention any minor Children. His birth (William) was probably about 1732. Lori) You indicated you would check Thomas Watts' will to be sure. I think this would be helpful in light of the William Watts pedigree you sent along. You see, this pedigree lists William Watts marrying three times. With his third wife, Lucy Woods, William had a daughter, Patsy Watts, b. 4 April 1776. Patsy's shown as marrying William White. I think this Patsy
Watts is the missing Martha (Patsy) Watts we've been looking for to further establish the White-Watts connection, as I have this same birthdate from another source. I also have a reference to their wedding in Madison Co., but no confirmation from primary sources at this time. Thus far, we have:

Jeremiah White m. Esther Watts (perhaps a daughter of Thomas)
William Watts m. Patsy Watts (daughter of William Watts, granddaughter
of ?? Watts)
Richard White m. Catey Olliver & Anney Wayt
John White m. ???

Mark White

This is the William Watts spoken about above:
Descendants of William Watts
Generation No. 1

1. WILLIAM5 WATTS (THOMAS4, EDWARD3, EDWARD2, CORNELIUS1) was born Abt. 1732 in Culpepper Co. VA, and died 1808 in Albermarle Co. VA. He married (1) MRS. SARAH ELLIS. He married (2) JANE HORD Abt. 1766. He married (3) LUCY WOODS Bef. 1775.

Notes for WILLIAM WATTS:
Heineman has found some confusion in this William Watts. According to a descendant this William Watts was the son of Jacob Watts who was the son of William Watts. According to Heinaman The William Watts was the son William Watts, Brother of Jacob. At this time I am believing he is the son of William Watts beccause the information was given to Heinaman by a Martha A. Draper of Palo Alto, CA who obtained the records from a Mrs. Pitts who was a descendant of this William Watts. This record report that Mrs. Pitts was descended from the son of William Watts and his wife Mary Burke Smith. It recites that her grandfather's children had been born of a farm, and had been baptized by a minister who also baptised her mother's children. The farm was in Madison County, formerly Culpepper Co., VA and was the site of the Battle of Rapidan in the War between the states, seven miles from Orange, VA.

Abt 1732 - Birth in Culpepper Co. VA

1776 - marriage to his first wife Jane

Information from this family is mostly supplied from Elspeth Ann Watts Haines, a desendant. Her information is found in the Family History Library 929.273. She has several mistakes and I believe on of them is that she has Jacob Watts the father of James Watts who married Elizabeth Durrett. She also had several other items I know to be wrong.

Notes for MRS. SARAH ELLIS:
Sarah was William's third wife and she was still living when his will was probated on 25 June 1808 in Albermarle Co. VA

Children of WILLIAM WATTS and JANE HORD are:
2. i. JAMES6 WATTS, b. 21 Jan 1767, Culpeper Co., VA; d. 25 Jan 1828, Near Liberty, Bedford Co. VA.
ii. FRANCES WATTS, b. 26 Oct 1769; m. WHITE.

Children of WILLIAM WATTS and LUCY WOODS are:
iii. PATSY6 WATTS, b. 04 Apr 1776; m. WILLIAM WHITE.
iv. WASHINGTON WATTS, b. 02 Sep 1777.
3. v. WILLIAM WATTS, b. 25 Mar 1779.

SOME WATTS IN GEORGIA

A WORKING DOCUMENT----ANY ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS?
Thomas/ of deed--- My Thomas Watts. In1790 Wilkes County Ga for Love and affection and $5 he gave a deed of gift of all household goods, slaves, crops etc to 6 sons--Jacobus, Archibald, Littleberry, Pleasant, Harrison, and Jubal.
There could have been other children. It is thought that some of these were not of age at the time of the deed of gift. These sons were later found in Green, Oglethorpe, Morgan. This is my family and I have a lot of descendants but do not have children of some of the 6 brothers, There are a lot of missing pieces. Still haven't proved any farther back to my satisfaction. He or a close relative may be the one accused of Treason Bedford Co. VA. So far I have found no connection with Thomas/Hannah but there must be a connection as the sons of these two Thomas Watts are really mixed in together in marriage, deed, tax digests and land lottery records in the various counties where they lived in Georgia. We are fairly certain that his wife was named Sarah (Sally)

Richard Sr.---Married Elizabeth Townsend. Two of his children married into the Key family. He was in Wilkes Co. also. It is thought there is a close connection with Thomas/of deed but the connection has not been proved that I know of. I have many of their descendants given to me by a member of this family many years ago.

Thomas/Hannah--This Thomas Watts born 1747, Virginia and died 1798 Green Co. GA . Married Hannah Rust Boggess- Fauquire Co. VA. 1768. Their 11 children born from 1769- through cir 1789. After his death Hannah married Matthew W Rabun. Most of their children lived in the same counties with children of Thomas/ of deed and some of Richard Sr's decendants in the early 1800's. Most of the children of Thomas/Hannah moved on to Alabama and west. One grandson became the governor of AL.
I have many of their descendants. A lot of research has been done on this family but to my knowledge it has not been proved farther back. There are at least 2 theories about who his father is.
Some say that he is Thomas Watts Jr. son of Capt. Thomas Watts/Lydia Thornton. I think Heinemann supports this. Others say that he is Thomas Watts Jr. son of Thomas/Sarah. I have an unpublished book compiled by Fred A Rutledge listing several thousand of descendants of Thomas/Hannah

Joseph/ of Rabun-- Joseph Watts married Lydia Ann Cargile.N C Most of this family lived Rabun Co. GA. He died 1847 Rabun Co. and left a will. Son Pleasant married NC . Most of others married in Rabun Co.
It is thought by some that this family has a Native American connection as are some of the other GA Watts

Jacob/Millie H-- Millie (Parmelia) Hollingsworth. This family was in SC when oldest children were born. Some children born in Georgia. Some of this family were in Jones and Twiggs and Troop Counties GA. Some stayed in GA others moved on to Alabama. Not to be confused with Jacob who married Emily (Millie) Ross. I have descendants of both Jacobs. Jacob/ Ross were native American.

John/ of Wash--- He relinquished all right to the estate of his father Thomas Watts late of Kershaw Co. SC to Tabitha Watts, Benjamin Watts, Julius Watts, and Isiah Watts all of Kershaw County. Not sure if all records are the same John Watts or if there were two mixed up together. There may be some confusion between the records of this John and Thomas and the family of John, Thomas, and Reuben or are they all one family? This John also probably had a son named Thomas .One John of Washington County died 1803.

John /3 sons---Rev soldier sons John, Thomas, and Reubin in Georgia at one time and on West

Watts/Jones Co. I don't have much information on descendants. Names in family- Uel (Youell) (Uwell) Hugh, Samuel, Andrew, Spencer, William. ( Could they be from Spencer Watts who died 1803 Wake Co. N.C 1803 - will.--- Children John Watts, Samuel Watts, Uel Watts. William Watts, William Steel, Thomas Steel, and a bunch of daughters named-- Wife Rebecca. etc . I think they must have come from the Westmoreland Co. VA ones because of similarity of names.

Can send family group sheets or descendants of above families (as I have them) if needed by anyone.
