MEMEBERS LINES

1. LFinney@email.dot.gov.au (Lisa Finney)

My name is Lisa Finney. I joined the WATTS mailing list and your newsletter
several months back. I am sorry it has taken me so long to write back with
all my details, as requested by you at the time of registration. I have been
reading the newsletters and the posings to the mailing list in the hope of
seeing something from Australia. It appears that most of the posts relate to
WATTS in the USA. I assume it's okay to use this for WATT (without the 'S')
postings as well?

My research starts with the following:

James WATT
m. Selina BRADFORD

- Charles WATT b. 1835 Parramatta, NSW, Australia
- m. Elizabeth JENKINS 1857 in Geelong, VIC, Australia

- James WATT b. 1858 Bacchus Marsh, VIC, Australia
- William WATT b. 1859 Bacchus Marsh, VIC, Australia, d. 1869
- Charles Harbord WATT b. 1861 Maddingley, VIC, Australia
- Mary WATT b. 1863 NSW, Australia, d. 1867
- Robert Bowden WATT b. 1865 Moama, NSW, Australia, d. 1867
- Edward Harold WATT b. 1867 Longwood, VIC, Australia, d. 1869
- John Bradford WATT b. 1869 Emerald Hill, VIC, Australia, d.1875
- Selina Emily WATT b. 1871 Emerald Hill, VIC, Australia
- Frank Drewitt WATT b. 1873 Emerald Hill, VIC, Australia

Regards,

Lisa

2. JoanOkla@aol.com (Joan Jones)

My full name is Helen Joan Jones (maiden name also Jones) and my mother was Cleo Inez Watts, b. 7/12/1912 in Searcy Co. (Leslie) AR.
John Watts, b. 1799, VA is as far back as I can go. He married Rebecca J. (Jensie) Smith, b. TN and they had my gg-grandfather James Albert Watts, b. Oct. 1822 in Hickman Co., TN, William Alexander Watts, b. 1823, TN, John Harvey Watts, b. WFT 1821-1825, Wayne Co., TN, Asa Watts, b. 1831, TN, Benjamin G. Watts b. 1833, TN, Jerusha E. Watts, b. 1838, KY, and Winfrey G. Watts, b. 1842, Searcy Co., AR.
James Albert Watts went by the name of Albert and he married Sarah Begley, b. Sept. 1827, TN, in about 1848 in Searcy Co., AR. The 1850 census shows him in the Wiley Cove Township, Searcy Co., AR at the age of 24, a farmer, wife Sarah, age 21 and son Henry L., b. 1849, Searcy Co., AR.. Later they had Okane Watts, b. 12/22/1850 (my g-grandfather), James Wesley Watts, b. 1852, James Buchanan Watts, b. 1859, Nancy Watts, b. abt. 1861, Andrew Jackson Watts, b. 1863, Hiriam Abraham Lincoln Watts, b. 1868, Asa Sweet Watts, b. 1885, (this child was listed on the LSD records but I question because of Sarah's age being 58 in 1885. The 1900 census however lists her as having 8 children all living and she didn't die until 5/5/1911). Albert enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War at Berryville, Ar. on January 28, 1864 as a pvt. in Co. M., 2nd Ark Calvary. He was injured and received a pension. He died Feb. 23, 1913 and both he and Sarah are buried in the Watts Cemetery in Searcy Co., Ar, near Leslie. Okane Watts married Mary Ann "Polly" Davis, b. 12/24/1852 in Searcy Co., AR about 1874 and they had James Abraham, b. 10/3/1875, d. 7/4/1958 Searcy Co., AR, Martha Adeline Watts. b/ 2/15/1877, Searcy Co, AR, d. 1949, Nancy Elizabeth Watts, b. 9/21/1878, Searcy Co.,AR, d. 1948 (I believe in California), Lou Oma Watts, b. 8/18/1881, Searcy Co., d. 5/21/1963, twins Henry Luther Watts and William Arthur Watts (my grandfather) 1/13/1884. Henry died in 1886 and Arthur died 7/3/1958 in Hominy, Ok. Guinn Alexander Watts, b. 7/4/1886, Searcy Co., d. 5/2/1960, Chicago, Il. but is buried in Watts Cemetery, Benjamin Harrison Watts, b. 10/16/1888, d. 1/9/1976 Searcy Co., AR, buried Watts Cemetery. and Dora Theosha Watts, b. 11/16/1890 in Searcy Co., d. 8/17/1972. My grandfather, William Arthur Watts married first Sarah Adeline Yeakle Board ( a divorcee) in 1909 in Arkansas. Addie and Arthur had two girls, Vernice Polly Watts McCamey, b. 4/27/1910 Searcy Co., AR, d. 10/1/1883 in Hot Springs, Ar and Cleo Inez Watts Jones, b. 7/12/1912 Searcy Co., AR and died 4/10/1996, Bixby, Ok. Cleo married Carl Lee Jones 11/17/1933 and had three children, myself Helen Joan Jones 9/24/1934, Coffeyville, KS, Carla Mae Jones Moseley, b. 2/11/1939, Muskogee, OK, d. 12/29/1995, Bixby, OK and Arthur Lee Jones, b. 7/18/1944, Tulsa, OK, d. 5/9/1997, Beaumont, TX. One interesting note is that William Arthur Watts married two Yeakle sisters and his brother Guinn Alexander Watts married another two, their first wives having died.
There was a reunion 10/11/1997 at Marshall, AR of the descendants of John Watts, 88 attending from MO, AR, OK and AZ.

3. Manhoose@aol.com (Madeline C. Van Hoose)

My full name Madeline C. Van Hoose

My gr-gr-gr-grandmother on my father's side was Margarett Watts. She married Asa Mullins:

Mulins, Ase m. Peggy Watts (d. of Jacob) 08 June 1816 in Haywood Co., NC
(Jacob Gilder Bondsman, Ro. Love, Clk.)

I cannot find Asa & Peggy in the 1820 census. In the 1830 census they were in Burke Co., NC. In the 1835 tax poll, Asa was listed in Haywood Co., NC. In 1840 they were in Monroe Co., TN, where they lived out their lives. My family was there through late 1800s.

Asa's oldest son, Alfred B., married Sarah Watts. In the 1850 Monroe Co., TN census, Louisa Watts was living with them (she was of age 52). Alfred was 29 and sarah was 26. They had children: Asa 6, Matilda 5, Joseph 3.

I have located a Jacob Watts in Montgomery Co., NC in 1800 (with dau correct age) but cannot find him in 1810 or later.

Do you have any idea about WATTS in Kent County, England?? There is an almshouse (for poor or widows) on the main street of Rochester set up by Watts long ago. I do have more on it, but will need to search it out.

Subj: Watts book published
From: cm-chin@georgian.net (collingwood museum)

A brand new publication will be available December 4, 1997, and will be a great idea for Watts researchers out there.

Mackinaw Productions of Canada has just published
W. WATTS & SONS BOAT BUILDERS - CANADIAN DESIGNS
FOR WORK AND PLEASURE 1842-1946. The softcover publication is 224 pages, over 150 photographs, illustrations and boat plans, with footnotes and indexed.

W. WATTS & SONS BOAT BUILDERS is co-authored by Peter Watts (great grandson of the founder) and Tracy Marsh (curator of The Collingwood Museum). The publication explores the many designs of Watts, well beyond the well known Collingwood skiff or mackinaw, and includes huron boats, life boats, lighthouse tenders, row boats, life rafts and more. The story is not just one of Georgian Bay, or even the Great Lakes, it includes stories of boats built for Geological Survey work on Hudson Bay and James Bay. Read about the wreck of the KEEWATIN, the Mounties first boat to begin their marine unit, and the serious misadventure on Lake Winnipeg. Follow Captain William Watts Jr. to the Pacific Coast where he used the tried and true Collingwood design and had a major impact on the salmon fishery in B.C.

Anyone interested in the book may request an order form to be FAXED to you by Mackinaw Productions. Mackinaw Productions can be reached electronically at mackinaw@georgian.net. The price is $34.95 plus g.s.t.

Due to the Canadian Postal Strike, only orders received back by FAX with payment by visa can be processed. Enjoy Watts history this Christmas!

Thank you,
Mackinaw Productions

Thanks Lori. I really love your reports and think it is so great that you are giving us this information. I am working on my line and will share it with you soon. It involves John Watt the Interpeter of 1700's who married K-i-o (Kay) daughter of Cherokee Chief Attakulakula. At least one other member is of this line, Dr. Clarence Williams in Ozark AR. He will be putting out a book next year and I will be working on one. Paula

If you have not read CHEROKEE HISTORY by EMMETT STARR researching WATTS then you should read this one.

Wouldn t it be nice if we had this Cherokee lineage, and maybe we do! It seems to me it would be very possible to have both the Cherokee and Choctaw blood!
I am sorry if I have given you information you already have but thought you might find this all interesting, unless you know of it already. I do not think the Watts newsletters are being published any longer. I was able to contact the publisher Freda C. Blessing in Conyers GA a couple of years ago.
She may or may not be there now. She seems to move about a lot.

Lori, Diane writes a very interesting article of which the above is from. I, too, am out of the WATTS line. I am suppose to be about 1/32 Cherokee, of which, I have been led to believe came through the RICHARDSON line. My ggf-John A RICHARDSON (b abt 1824), is reported to be a Cherokee Indian Chief. He died in the Civil War Battle - Chicamauga and is buried there in GA. But, as I read her article, I would think that I have Cherokee in me from the John A WATTS lineage b abt 1810 GA, as well.

Any of you MOORE-RICHARDSON-WATTS lineage have anything to feed back? Contact me at Griway@aol.com (Waymon Griffin).
