Welcome Our list of Watts researchers is growing and again I encourage each of you to share some of your research. We would love to have some histories and even more detailed family lines. Several of you are researching in the Northeast and because this is not my area for Watts’ my database is very small. Please send in some of your research so the newsletter reaches those of you in that area. I am going to once again sent the newsletter to everyone on my list but this is really the last one unless you have contacted me. I want to include everyone who is interested but do not see any point of sending it to those of you who are not. If you know of anyone who would like to receive a copy please have them e-mail me. If you have access to a bulletin board through your online service, please post a message inviting others to join us. I hope this copy has something for everyone. ******************************************** 1. Members Lines 2. Library of Congress - Watts Genealogies 3. Ripley County, Indiana - Home Page 4. Miscellaneous ******************************************** 1. Mary Williams Arnold - ArnoldMB@AOL.com Researching Watts from Maryland/Virginia. My greatgrandfather's book states they were from Maryland but I believe they were, at least later, from Virginia. David Watts b abt 1725 in Scotland I have searched for David and James in Maryland and can not find them, however I have found a David Watts in Virginia - Albermale County in 1790. I would like to find out more information on David Watts such as his wife and other children, residence, death etc etc. If anyone has any knowledge or can help me locate my David Watts I would appreciate it. I have more information on these lines if anyone is interested. 2. Laurie Dyche - Ldyche2136@aol.com I am Laurie Watts Dyche. My earliest Watts ancestor that I know of is William Sr., who was born in England. I believe his father's name was Parmenas, but not sure. His wife was Prudence Parr Lyle, daughter of Honor Eliot. William came to New York, then settled in Washtenaw County, Michigan. I descend through his son William, who married Hannah Muscott. Their son was Felton Dan Watts, who married Norah May Phillips. Felton and Norah had a son, Worth Phillips. They moved to Anoka, Idaho, then Weston, Oregon. They finally settled in Portland, Oregon, where Felton was a physician in St. Johns. Worth married Bessie Yoder, and my father is their son Curtiss. I would like to learn more about the family of William Sr., as well as more about the lives of William Jr. and Felton. I will be looking forward to the Watts newsletter! Thank you for doing this. 3. JABLloyd@aol.com My Great grand father was JOHN DUDLEY WATTS (born 9 August 1856/died 26 August 1934) one of 12 children of WESLEY WATTS (born 27 September 1807/died 24 March 1886). Wesley and his wife Frances HIATT are buried in Shelby County,KY, as are John Dudley WATTS and most of the other twelve children and spouses. I don't know anything else about WESLEY WATTS. Please e-mail to JABLloyd@aol.com. Thanks 4. Darrell Spencer - dspenc@dekalb.net Please subscribe me to the Watts Newsletter. I descend from Susannah Tennessee Watts b. November 1832 Jackson Co. TN, d. 1913 Dekalb Co. TN. Her parents were Mason Watts b. 12/14/1795 Oglethorpe Co. GA d. 1844-1850 Arkansas and Mary Clemons b. 1795 VA d. 1844-1850 Arkansas. Mason Watts was the son of Bennett Watts b. ca. 1761-1763 Fauquier Co. VA d. 4/2/1825 Jackson Co. TN and Susannah Thornton b. 1758-1762 VA d. 9/5/1839 Jackson Co. TN. Bennett Watts was the son of Thomas Watts b. 1720 Fauquier Co. VA d. 1769 Fauquier Co. VA and Lydia Thornton b. ca. 1720 Fauquier Co. VA. I would like to correspond with anyone who can take this Watts line back further. 5. Carole Watts - EASY SKIER@aol.com Thank you for including me on your mailing list. Hopefully I'll have a breakthrough. I'm relatively new to the research of the WATTS name. This is the African-American side. This is what I have so far. My grandfather was named George Washington Watts b 1865? d 1932. He had three brothers Gus, Bill and James Watts. The family story goes that they also had four sisters but they passed over the color line. They were supposedly from Laurens County, South Carolina however I haven't been able to find them there. In speaking with an older cousin, she said that she had jeard that my grandfather was white. I can't document this as yet. In the news letter, one of the respondents' relatives was named George Washington Watts in VA. I'm having a real difficult time tracing back past 1880. George Washington Watts was aka "Wash" Watts which is how he is listed in several census's. He married Maggie Moreland and had 13 children of which 11 survived to adulthood. The next to the youngest being my father, James Curtis Watts. ******************************************* Here is a list of WATTS genealogies held by the Library of Congress (with their catalog number). Barb Boese - barbwire@midusa.net ****************************************** From: SNDE92B@prodigy.com (MRS ROBERT E WALLACE) I saw a posting in the Watts newsletter E-mailed to me 10/16 concerning Kizzy West. I have her!! Even have a picture of her. Alas, she is not my line, but I have some info you could use and maybe you have info I could use. Kizzy b. July 1860 in Tishomingo Co. MS (I assume maybe it was Keziah) West m. John Franklin Bennett b. may 12, 1860 same place. John is my GGrandfather's brother. I have his father \but no other Bennetts back and his mother's family The Stanford back to N. Ireland. But these are probably not of interest to you. Kizzy's decendants that I have are as follows: Pickney Bennett b. abt 1860 Tish. MS m. Ann Driscoll That is all I have on that line. My Bennetts, 3 of which married Watts (the picture of Kizzy I have is with the five Bennett brothers and their wives 3 of which are Watt's) came to Grayson Co. TX too but around the turn of the century moved on to Jones Co. TX. Another note maybe of interest to you. I show a Willis Aleck Watts m. to Neely West. Willis would be the brother-in-law to all the Bennetts that married the Watts. (i.e. Three of Willis' siblings married Bennetts). I have always wondered if Neely was kin to Kizzy and if so how. Could you solve this family riddle? I have it in my head that Neely had no children but don't know for sure why I think that without looking through my stuff again. I have more on these Watts if they are your line I'll be glad to exchange info. I have a nice tree chart I would be glad to mail you, if you would E-mail me your address. I would also be interested in your line. These Bennetts of mine tended to marry the same families again and again and there might be a clue somewhere in your line. Other surnames of interest to these lines are Stanford, Holly/Holley, King, Kennedy, Brown, Leatherwood, Lamb Becky ******************************************* DAR #36713 - Descendant of Samuel Watts - Massachusetts MRS. ********************************************** Did I tell you how cool this is? I read #1 after sending you some information. I see the potential for finding my ancestors. I was particularly interested in the John Watts Bible Record--the names I saw were amazingly similar to my Watts' line. Now I need to find that link. (WATTS’ ONLNE - Issue #1) Please add to my response (sent earlier) that I will be more than happy to share whatever information that I have. Most of my known Watts ancestors are in the Shelby, Anderson, and Spencer Counties of KY. Thanks, Judy Judy, Here is what I have on this John Watts.
