The Watts On-line
Issue No. 28 Part 1
September 5, 1997

I had several messages regarding no newsletter last week.  I'm glad so many of you missed it!  The newsletter is a bi-monthy newsletter and sent out on the first and third Friday of each month.  August had a fifth week.  If you ever do not receive a newsletter and you think you should have gotten it please feel free to e-mail me.  I get returned mail each time.  As the mailing list grows I find myself with many, many messages to sort through.  Here are a few things that you could do to help me out.
1.  If you send anything in an attached file please be sure your name is on the attached document.  I seem to be getting the downloaded files and e-mail messages that come with them mixed up.
2.  When you message me, be sure the name Watts is somewhere in the subject line.  I delete many messages before I even read them to get rid of the junk mail.  I would hate to delete anything of importance....your message. Thanks again for the wonderful contributions ...keep them coming!

Answer:   I do not have any information on this family myself.  Maybe someone out there can help?  Lori

Question:     lcrawfor@mail.orion.org (Linda L. Crawford)

Since it has been awhile I will post this again.
Who was the Arenna Watts on the 1860 census of Dallas Co MO? She was in the home of Maclain and Nancy Southard. She was 8 years old, born in KY. I have nothing else at all on her. Maclain had a daughter Susan who married a Rice and I wonder if Watts is really Rice. Arenna may not be correct.
Thank you

Question:     When you have time--I would like to know more about the Jacob WATTS line that you found in MD.  Jacob WATTS born 17 March 1779 perhaps in MD.  You quoted from Heineman's "Watts Families....".
Was there more information about Jacob or his wife, Polly HINTON?  Their parents or siblings?  What sources did he use for the information.  Is this author's work available?

While I have some of the information about Jacob and Polly's five children, any further details would be welcome.       No big rush.   Maybe an inquiry in the newsletter about descendants of Jacob and Polly and those five sons would generate some postings about these KY WATTS.  Lots of the WATTS seem to be from NC, GA, etc.
     Thanks--

      Judy Lloyd

Answer:  I check the book "Watts Families Descended from Early Emigrants who Settled in the Tidewater Counties of Virginia"  by Charles Heineman. 1940 as you requested.  This book is available at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. and the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.  I have a copy myself and would be happy to provide information.  I know a few others of you out there have a copy and if you are willing to do "look-ups" please let us know.  Thanks.

Jacob Watts, b. 17 Mar 1779 and d. 17 dec 1862.  He is thought to have been from Maryland and was in Shelby County, KY where he married Polly Hinton on July 18, 1804.  She was born in 1781 and died in 1815.  They are both buried at Pigeon Fork, Shelby Co., KY>

Children:
Wesley G. Watts - d. 1886
Greenberry Watts
Greenup Watts
Jerry Watts
W. Hinton Watts

The book does not have any information on the parents of Jacob Watts and Polly Hinton but I do have information on their descendants.  Let me know if anyone is interested.  Lori

Question:     colt2@juno.com (GAIL L COLLINS)

I'm actually looking for Thomas Watts ancestors and found the Marriage of Thomas Watts and Susannah Taylor Oct. 12,1756 (Parish of St.Thomas & St. Denis)
Does anyone know who Thomas Watts was married to? Others I found are Jacob Watts & Elinor Stocks (widow) Aug.19,1735 (Christ Church Parish)
John Watts & Joppe Stuard  April 8,1745 (St. Phillip's Parish)
Robt Watts & Jane Ferguson  Nov.21,1765 (Hayne Records)

I also found a Thomas Watts  5'6"  age 33 England Saddletreemaker, rode with Captain William Cock's Rangers in Oct.21,1755. These are all South Carolina records.
Does anyone know what an England Saddletreemaker is ? I also wonder if these are the same Thomas Watts?
Any input is welcomed.
Gail Collins

Answer:  I have a Susannah Tayor who married a James Watts.  James was born Jan 6, 1718 in Middlesex Co., VA and died in South Carolina.  He married Susannah in Virginia.  They were also living in Hanover Co., VA before they removed to South Carolina.   If this could be the family you are looking for let me know.  I see no son's named Thomas.  Lori

Question:  Gargatha@aol.com

The Watts part of my family is not really watts, what I have is a Mrs Mary Watts that married my ancester as here second husband, I have been watching our list of watts and have not seen much come through on the Watts family of talbot and dorchester co. MD. any hints as to what i should do?

Her info is as follows:
Mrs mary watts Born about 1720 in either Talbot or Dorchester Co. MD Married about 1744, probably Talbot Co. MD to James Delahay JR as her second husband , no info on the first husband other than his name was WATTS, died 1762, Talbot co, MD as her account was recorded in Talbot Co. that year, I have not gotten a copy of her will or account for that matter, her account was lib, 48,. folio 311.
I hope you have something on this family as I am stuck.
RAY

Lori, thought you might like to throw this in!

Who's Calling

"Who's calling?" was the answer to the telephone.
"Watt."
"What is your name, please?"
"Watt's my name."
"That's what I asked you. What's your name?"
"That's what I told you. Watt's my name."
A long pause, and then, from Watt, "Is this James Brown?"
"No, this is Knott."
"Please, tell me your name."
"Will Knott."
Whereupon they both hung up.

Came across this in 10,000 Jokes, Toasts & Stories from the library.  Since I can't get anywhere on my Fanny Watts, might as well laugh about Watts! later, betty b.
