Our month long vacation took us through 19 states and
two countries and many cemeteries. While some cemeteries were a
total wash, others were terrific finds. Some of the old cemeteries
in New England were wonderful with stones as old as 1667. I did try
an new technique suggested to my by a fellow co-worker and "dead
people" finder. While we were in Moberly, MO I pulled out the
shaving cream I brought to put on the stone and highlighted the engraving.
Let me give you some personal advise on this subject....DO NOT use gel
shaving cream. It did not lather very well and just mad a mess.
Also be sure you have a squeegee or dustpan to scrap off excess
shaving cream leaving only that filling in the indentations. By the
time I got to Geneseo, IL, I had stopped at the local Walmart and
purchased the correct supplies, a can of regular shaving cream, a roll of
paper towels, a dustpan and water to rinse off the stones. This
worked wonders. I could clearly read stones that were not readable
at all without the shaving cream. This was extremely important when
it came to dates! Now that I am back I am going to re-vamp the
mailing list again. If for any reason you do not receive your
newsletter please E-mail me. Every so often I have do drop people
from the mailing list because the mail will not go through for some reason
or the other.
Thanks. Lori

Visiting Cemeteries
I wanted to share part of a message Judy sent me before I went on
vacation. I found it humorus and thought some of you
might relate! Lori
...I don't know how old your kids are but, of course, visiting cemeteries,
courthouses, and out of the way little towns is more fun than amusement
parks. My kids--25 and 30 now, remember many a trip from Michigan
(where we live) to KY or MO (where the grandparents lived) sidetracked by
way-off-the-interstate detours. The youngest developed a whole list
of "Rules for Cemeteries" including:
1. NO cemeteries after dark--no
matter how late we got there.
2. NO cemeteries in the rain.
3. NO courthouses without air
conditioning.
4. A 30 minute limit on looking for
cemeteries that we've only "heard" about.
And my favorite--with several grains of truth in it:
5. Don't waste time talking to 30
year old guys in their yards about where to find cemeteries. Find
OLD people and they will know where they are located!
She also makes me promise to keep a photo album with gravestone pictures
away from the wedding and vacation albums, lest some poor guest be shocked
by the content.
Now that they are older, however, they have some memories of great
"finds"; of seeing their family's names on stones in small
places across the midwest; and have developed some appreciation for the
beauty and serenity of an old country cemetery.
So, keep at it. Maybe they will appreciate it someday.

Hi Norman: Got Lori's on-line Issue #24, my first-and am so excited!
Hope I can make some connections. In your Dalton resear4ch, you list
child #5 of John Watts and Lucy Dalton as Elyaj In Part 2,
John's will lists Elijah; are they one and the same?
My grandfather, Elijah Walker Watts, b. 17 Feb 1861, Hickman Co.TN; I have
his father, Elija, b. abt. 1830 in TN, son of Nancy ? who was born inSC.
From Hickman Co, they moved on to nearby Humphreys Co. TN.
Does any of your line migrate into Middle TN?
If this Dalton is my line, I have a 'gap' as you can see. Hope I can
get back issues of the Watts On-Line. Our annual Watts reunion is
the last Sun. in Sep. at Paris Landing State Park in West TN. I
really hope to have them so earlier connections before then. They
are all so interested, but have no idea as to where we came from.
I have a lot of names and connections from Elijah Walker Wattts on to
present if anyone is interested. My Elija (b.abt 1830) m. Sarah
Arrena Huddleston (b.2 Mar 1835 in TN) dtr. of John & Ann &
Huddleston. Sara died 20 Jan 1913 and is burried in Wofford-Watts
Cem. in Humphreys Co. TN.
Let me know if this connects w/anyone out there! Reba

I have a lot of research done by others of your family. My Thomas
Watts of Georgia seems to be related in some way to Richard Watts. I
collected a lot of Watts/Key information in an effort to get my Thomas
separated from all of the other Thomas Watts in Georgia. I still am
not sure how my Thomas is connected to Richard. I'm sending this in
case you don't already have it. I can send you information about
Benjamine's family if you are interested. Mt
Thomas may be a brother to Richard SR but this is just speculation.
