Lines ******************************************** MEMBERS LINES 1. Janet Bailey - cbailey@wworld.com My Watts connection is Haden Watts, b. 8 Nov 1785, VA. He married Leesa Wadsworth on 2 Oct 1805, Jackson Co, GA. He died 21 May 1846, Clinton Co, IL. His father was Richard Watts born sometime in 1740 in Virgina and married Elizabeth Townsend in 1763, Amelia Co, VA. He died after 1805, Wilkes Co, GA. We think his father is John Watts who died in Lunenberg Co, VA in 1756. I can provide a more detailed summary of my connection if you would like. If you or anyone would happen to have any information further back that is directly connected to my connection I would love to hear from them. Thanks, Janet Bailey Janet - The following information comes from the work of Charles Heineman. He has a generation between Haden and Richard. Hayden Watts b. 8 Nov 1785, d. 21 May 1846. He moved to GA with his parents and wed Lee or Lou Wadsworth in Jackson County, GA on 2 Oct 1806. Children were: James Hicks, William H., Hayden A. Benjamin, b. 12 Nov 1819, Richard Watts, Sallie, Gilia Ann, and Susanna L. Benjamin Watts - father of Hayden He married Elizabeth Key in Bedford Co., VA and then moved to GA. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in Jackson Co., GA 7 Dec 1808. He served in the Revolutionary War and enlisted in Franklin Co., VA where he served for six months under Capt. Thoms N. Bush. He made a pension 20 Sep 1834. After moving to GA he later moved to Washington Co., IL. Children were: 1. Hayden
Watts (see above) Richard Watts - father of Benjamin b.. in VA and d. 5 May 1817. He m. Elizabeth and she was administrator of his estate in Wilkes Co., GA where he died. Children were: 1. Judith
who m. Joseph Key (more info available) 2. Paula Barker - barker@flash.net Started looking for our BARKER line and found we had WATTS everywhere. Can you help us? Until recently all we knew was that our William Nicholas BARKER married Alitia HUMBLE in LA and came to Texas in 1834. (Alitia/Alice Humble was the daughter of Mr. Humble and Mary NETTLES...We have the Nettles back in NC,SC) We recently found that William's father was Britton BARKER. He married Celia WATTS in Wilkington, MS in 1808. The moved to LA and both died leaving the children to be raised by the WATTS grandparents, who were apparently in LA now also...one reason the BARKERS were hard to find before Texas) One of William's sisters, Elizabeth, married James PARKER. William and Francis both played parts in the Texas Revolution. One of Elizabeth's daughters married an Francis BROWN. One of their grandaughters married a BARKER so both William and Elizabeth are great great grand parents of my husband. Any way these seen to be names from the Carolinas. I think they represent a group who were migrating together. Some probably dropped of on the way or turned to different directions once in a while. Thank you, Paula in Texas ======================== FAULKNER, MALLORY, CAVE, BLEDSOE, FARMER, COKER, JAMESON, HICKS, SUMMA, WILLIAMS, MARTIN, BARKER, DOWNING, CAMPBELL 3. Stephen Dale Bowling - SDBOWLING@aol.com I am very pleased with the two newsletter that I have recieved. I think you are doing a great service to our families. I am the historian of our Watts Family Association in Kentucky. We are from the "Lost" Watts family. We descend from George Washington Watts (born abt 1775 in Virginia or North Carolina, possibly on Sept. 2, 1777). We can make no connection on back further. We know that he married Emily "Millie" Noble from Fredrick County, Virginia. George was a farmer and hunter. He and Millie married about 1800, shortly before they came to Kentucky with Millie's family, the Nobles. They settled in what is now Breathitt County, Kentucky and raised eight children. George Washington died about 1852/1860 in Breathitt County and Millie died about 1864/69. That is the extent of what we know. George was possibly the son of William Watts and Jane (Hord). They had a son names Lt. Washington Watts born sept. 2, 1777. Yet we do not know if this is our George. Could you please include this information in your next newsletter. We might just be able to connect with a Watts family in VA or NC that has the info our family needs. Thanks and keep up the good work!!!! 4. Barbara sent the following response: In answer to your request for more information about Robert Watts of Scotland and New York--- From Watts (Watt) (In New York and Scotland) also Watts, Wattys, Wathes, De Wath, Le Fleming (In England) All Prepared by Albert Welles. Published 1898. Page 7,8 The Honorable John Watts 11,. of New York , was the fourth child of the Honorable ROBERT WATT, of Edinburgh, Scotland, and the city of New York, who was born in the first named place, anno 1680 and (finally) emigrated to America about the year 1810. He resided in New York the residue of his lifetime, and died there 21st September, 1750. The place of his nativity and residence in Scotland was "Rose Hill", an ancient estate about a mile west of Edinburgh on the old Glasgow road. The Rose Hill estate is nearly all built over, and the Caledonian Railway passes through it. The Watts home still stood in 1860, in a fair state of preservation. It was a quaint old fashioned building, some sixty feet square and three stories high, with four windows in a row on every floor. It's situation is high, affording a splendid view to the west and to the south. There is a two-story building , about twenty feet to the rear of it, like a tower, separate for offices. Governor Hunter proposed Robert Watts (who had added an s to his original name, Watt why and when his son never heard) to the "Lords of Trade" of the city of New York, anno 1715. He had been a resident of New York about five years. The Governor named him as "a gentleman of sound sense, high respectability, large wealth and known affection to the government. He seems to have been a young man of many personal attractions, of considerable culture , and of rare prominence. Among those who dispensed the hospitalities of the best society in New York, in the year 1736, were Chief Justice de Lancy, Robert Watts, Abraham de Peyster Jr, Philip van Courtlandt, James Alexander, Colonel Henry Beekman, Caldwallader Colden , and others , with a liberality and grace which have rarely been surpassed. Robert Watts was foreman of the Grand Jury on the trial, April 21, 1741, of the conspirators in the famous Negro Plot to burn the fort and the city, which was discovered and surpressed. He was married in New York in the year 1706 to Mary Nicholl daughter of William Nicoll (who ahd dropped the s---originally Nicholls) of New York and Islip, Long Island ( and Ann Van Rensselaer, daughter of Jeremiah van Rensselaer and Mara van Cpurtlandt) by whom he had issue four children, l. ANNE WATTS, born about the year 1707. She died in Edinburgh, Scotland, unmarried. ll. MARGARET WATTS, born about the year 1709. She died in Edinburgh, Scotland Unmarried. lll. MARY WATTS, born in May 1713. She died in anno 1736. She was married in March, 1732, to Captain Richard Riggs, commanding one of the independent Companies in--- by whom she had issue an only son John Riggs born about the year 1733. He died in childhood. lV. JOHN WATTS, born in New York, 5th April, 1715. (account of him given above) {MY note BGW Pages 1-6 are devoted to this John Watts who married Ann de Lancy)} Will send more later.
