HEADRIGHT AND BOUNTY GRANTS WITH WATTS SURNAME Watts
Surname
HEADRIGHT AND
BOUNTY GRANTS 1756-1909 A man could be entitled to 200 acres as his own headright plus 50 acres for wife and each child and slave but limited to 1000 acres The rights of persons who had previously warrents of survey and they were entitled to grants of land then OCCUPIED by them The act of 1784 opened up Franklin and Washington
Counties. A large section in what was later to be Green County was
reserved for men who had served in the Continental Line or Navy. These original Counties were divided again and again
and the county lines were moved.. I
think where my Thomas Watts settled was at first in the southern part of
Wilkes then the line was moved and he was in Green.
I think he lived right where Wilkes, Green, Oglethorpe , Hancock
and Tolliferro come together. I hope someday to get to the archives in Atlanta and
look at the grants. I would
be interested to see what I could find out about John Watts who owned so
much land in Washington County and if this was one John, two Johns or
more. Also Edward Watts of Richmond county had several pages of
grants. If anyone has looked
any of this up I would be interested to know.
Where you see a + by page number there would be more than one page
in the records. Submitted by Barbara G Waldrop@aol.com ******************************************** QUERIES 1. EASY
